GEOSCIENCE 405 - Topics in Geophysics
Spring 2006 - Dr. Jennifer Anderson
The field work continues with the good weather...
This week, students worked with DC resistivity to sort out further subsurface detail, particularly to try to identify the fill beneath the bikepath. DC resistivity measures the ability of the subsurface to resist an electrical current (so basically students were electrocuting the ground). Students found that the resistance was low in the saturated soil away from the bikepath, and high in the materials beneath the bikepath, suggesting that these materials contain less water.
