Research in the Large River Studies Center

Students have participated in a wide range of reserach projects in the Large River Studies Center.   Students receive course credit through BIO 400 (Individual Studies) and BIO 499 (Student Research).  If eligible, students can also apply their research towards completion of the Biology Honors program.   Students participate in all facets of a research project: development of the experimental design; collection of field samples; analysis of samples; and analysis of data.  Students write a scientific paper upon completion of their project and present their findings at a scientific meeting.  Students have presented locally at the annual St. Mary's Undergraduate Biology Symposium and the annual meeting of the Mississippi River Research Consortium.   They have also been given the opportunity to present at the annual meeting of the North American Benthological Society, a national society that focuses on aquatic ecology.
