Maxwell Children's Center

In the Fall of 2000, two programs on campus, Winona State Child Care Center and Winona State Nursery School, merged together to form Maxwell Children's Center. In February of 2001, the After-School Tutoring and Recreation Program was added and in the summer of 2001, we completed our first summer program. We have grown to serve approximately 40 children.

Schedule and Tuition

The center is open from 7:00-5:30 Monday-Friday. The core hours of the program are 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Minimum enrollment is 3 days per week. Families choose their hours of attendance and are billed accordingly. Cost is $3.00/hr with additional charges for field trips. Families are billed weekly for program costs.

Meals and Clothing

The center provides breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snack. Children should dress comfortably with sturdy shoes (no sandals, please!) and be prepared for many activities. Extra clothes may be sent for quick changes. The children are asked to wear our specially designed Maxwell Children's Center purple tie-dyed shirt to be worn on field trip and special activity days.

Health History

Each participant is required to complete documents required by state licensing regulations for children's programs. (Include: formal application, immunization record, health care summary, emergency contact card, food program form, and personal information.) CHILD'S FILE MUST BE COMPLETE BEFORE FIRST DAY OF PROGRAM.

Registration occurs during the second week of March. For families new to Maxwell, a $35 registration fee (which includes purple tie-dyed t-shirt) must accompany application. General Program Information Explore a different theme or skill every week. Some themes are back by popular demand, while others will spark new interests. Each morning students will explore the week's topic through a variety of activities while the afternoon pace changes with planned events like swimming, biking, community service, and field trips. Each day children spend the day grouped in various ways...by age, interest, and whole group.
