There are 2 MELL (Microsoft Electronic Learning Library) collections available for general use, details are given below.

You install the Desktop and IT Pro collections form the Control Panel Add/Remove software feature on your laptop.

The Desktop collection (~690MB) concentrates on how to use Office 2003 applications.

The IT Pro collection (~400MB) emphasizes network and security topics. It is of interest mainly to MIS, CS and IT support personnel.

The Developer collection, available for students in MIS programming courses, must be installed as described here.
The Developer collection (~82MB) discusses programming topics, and languages such as VB, VC# and Visual Studio.Net.

To install this collection, when logged on to the WSU network with a WIRED connection, select Start>Run and type in:
\\appsrv1\apps\Installs\pc\MELL
Then press 'OK'. In the resulting window choose the folder for the appropriate collection, open that folder and double-click the .exe file to start the install. Please note the size of the filles.

Using MELL

A major benefit of Mell is that you can search a book electronically.

Advanced Search functionality allows you to search all books within a collection.

Notice that the MELL books often refer to page numbers, these are not available in electronic format.

You can show or hide the Table of Contents

After installing MELL on a computer that has Visual Studio 2005 installed, you must go to the Control Panel and install the 'MELL Patch for VS'

Note: After installing Windows XP SP2(Service Pack 2) you will receive a message that your content is being blocked.

To enable MELL, in Internet Explorer from the menu select Tools>Internet Options... choose the 'Advanced' tab, scroll down to the security section and check the box 'Allow active content to run in files on My Computer'.
