The Department of Geoscience at Winona State is committed to teaching undergraduates about Earth systems. We offer a comprehensive curriculum that prepares our major's for careers in all aspects of the Earth sciences. We emphasize hands-on activities that get our students into the field to do "real" geology very early in their program of study.
My role in the department is to teach courses and conduct research that relates to near-surface earth processes. My teaching and research covers topics such as global climate change, groundwater systems, surface water systems, and the evolution of the Earth's surface features. These topics play an important role in developing an understanding of the environmental issues that are being discussed within our society.
Geology in general has become an increasingly interdisciplinary science, and this is particularly true of the sub-disciplines in which I am most interested. I use my teaching and research to challenge students to make the connections that exist between geology, biology, chemistry, and even public policy.
Please feel free to explore this web site to find out more about my interests.
