DNR State Fish Hatchery
Located on Highway 16, two miles south of Lanesboro, MN
The Lanesboro fish hatchery is one of five fish hatcheries in the state of Minnesota. It is responsible for supplying over 750,000 brown trout and over 400,000 rainbow trout to stock Minnesota lakes and rivers for fishing. The fish produced at this hatchery are dispersed all over the state, with many of them being sent north, so they can complete their natural migration process.
The DNR hopes to do more than just supply fish for local fisherman when stocking the lakes and streams. The DNR hopes to introduce trout into new habitats with suitable resources for them and to sites that have been eliminated of trout or where natural production does not take place. The DNR only places their stock in areas that have healthy habitats. They also look for sites that will possibly allow for future natural spawning.
