NMR information for Dr. Nalli's Chemistry 350 labs

To access NMR data:

1. From a PC, click START, choose RUN enter \\STORE\CLASSES and click OK

2. Enter your username and password.

3.  Scroll down to the folder 20103000730M

4. The data you need will be in the read-only subfolder. You probably should copy it to your desktop for easy access until you are finished with the lab.

5. We will use JEOL's "Delta" software for processing our NMR files (this is the same software that is on the NMR computer). To install Delta on your PC, go to \\Appsrv1\apps\Installs\pc\Chemistry\Data\Delta and double click of the DeltaInstaller_v4.3.6.exe file . Once you start it up you will need to unlock the program by entering the license key, which will be given out in lecture and is also available at the course D2L site. Select "Installation" under the file menu and enter the license key there.

Note: If your PC is running Vista then you will need to do the following before running the DeltaInstaller_v4.3.6.exe file.

(1) Copy the DeltaInstaller_4.3.6.exe file to your desktop then right click on it and select properties. (2) Click on the Compatibility tab. (3) Check on "Run this program in compatibility mode for:". (4) From the pull down menu select "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)". (5) Click OK at the bottom of the Properties window.

To print NMR data

To print from Delta directly to a networked printer you may have to specify the address of the printer in Delta preferences menu. Do the following:

1. Open up Delta and select on <File> <Preferences>

2. Choose <Options> then <Printer Configure>

3. In the "title" box, type \\printsrv1.winona.edu\slc386 (or at the end substitute the name of your favorite network printer instead of slc386)

4. In the "Printer" scroll box select the printer you just added and check that the "B&W" button is depressed and the "posterize" button is not selected. Click <save>.

5. Now go to the Printer/Plotter tab (3rd from left) and click on <edit>. In the value box enter the full address of the printer again exactly as it was entered in step 3. Click <save and close> to exit out of the preferences menu.

(Note: I am not sure that these instructions are completely correct. You may have to play around with it a it to get it to work.)
