Accessing and Processing NMR Files

Accessing NMR data files:

On a PC:

  1. On a PC, these should be listed automatically as your T directory or ClassStorage(\\winona.edu\dfs\Community)((T:). (When you are off campus, you will need a VPN connection and will need to Click to Map Drives in order to see it on your list in File Explorer.)
  2. You may need to enter your username and password.
  3. Scroll down to the folder 2016100312
  4. The data you need will be in the read-only subfolder. You should copy all needed files to your machine for guaranteed easy access later.
  5. I recommend that you create a shortcut to this folder by right clicking on it and selecting "send to Desktop (create shortcut)". Now you will have easy access to it in the future.

On a Mac:

  1. Open the "Finder"
  2. In the menu at the top of the screen click on "Go" and then "Connect to Server"
  3. Enter smb://files.winona.edu/classes
  4. Click Connect.
  5. Find the folder 2016100312\readonly.  You should copy all needed files to your machine for guaranteed easy access later.

Installing Delta (software for processing NMR files):

For PCs running Windows 8:

  1. Use copy and paste to enter \\appsrv1\apps\Installs\pc\Chemistry into a Windows Explorer address bar.
  2. Double click the Install_Delta_5.0.2_PC file.
  3. Once installed you will need to unlock the program by entering the license key, which is available at the course D2L site. Start the Delta program then select "Installation" under the file menu and enter the license key there.

For Macs:

  1. You must be on campus connected via your wired network connection. Make sure wireless is turned off during the install.
  2. Click Go -> Connect to Server
  3. Type: smb://appsrv1/apps/Installs/mac/Chemistry/Delta and click Connect
  4. Drag the DeltaInstaller file to your desktop
  5. Double click on the DeltaInstaller file on your desktop
  6. The installer will launch and warn that, "You need an Administrator password to install the software" -Click on the lock icon and enter your password (same as your email password) Click OK
  7. Click Next
  8. Click "I accept the terms of the License Agreement"
  9. Click Next
  10. Click Next
  11. Click Install. Click Cancel when it asks to Update Spectrometer
  12. Click Done. Delta will be installed to your Applications folder.
  13. Once installed you will need to unlock the program by entering the license key, which is available at the course D2L site. Start the Delta program then select "Installation" under the file menu and enter the license key there.
