individual A small Minnesota shop fabricates some custom fiberglass parts using a spray-up process.  They do an excellent job of minimizing styrene vapor in the shop, but at the end of the day they place components of their spray equipment in a large container filled with methyl ethyl ketone, MEK, solvent (also known as 2-Butanone) and sometimes forget to cover the container.  The mornings following these days the workers arrive to 2 cubic feet of MEK vapor filling their 700 square feet (with 8-foot ceiling) shop.  They take out the components soaking in the MEK, finish cleaning them off, and then cover the container (preventing any further evaporation of the solvent).  By the end of the workday (8 hours later) all the MEK vapor is dissipated. Assuming a linear rate of decline in the MEK vapor concentration throughout the day:
Were the workers exposed to hazardous concentrations of MEK?
Were PELs exceeded in the shop?
Would PELs have been exceeded if the shop was located in Wisconsin?

Provide the calculations behind your answers.

Choose a process in which you play an integral role. It can be from your personal life, from where you work, or from school. Describe the current condition (steps in the process, times associated with each step, and the total time). Keeping in mind the seven sources of waste (DOTWIMP), describe the target condition (steps in the process, times associated with each step, and the total time). Indicate the types of waste eliminated. Write-up the information.

a). Based on past experience, what is the learning rate? (use the values for unit 1 and for unit 20 to determine the index of learning and then use that result to determine the learning rate)
b). What bid should LTI submit for the additional order of 100 units, assuming that learning continues?
c). What is the cost expected to be for the last unit under the learning rate you estimated?
