Sandwich Panel Lab

Your team needs to produce a sandwich panel consisting of the following materials:

E-glass/epoxy face sheets

7781 E-glass fabric (warp direction in long dimension of panel)

West System 105 Epoxy Resin/206 Slow Hardener

Divinycell 1/2" nominal thickness foam core

The required dimensions of the panel are as shown (refer to ASTM D 1781):

Edge closeouts are not required.

Stitching through the thickness of the panel is not permitted. The foam core must be the only material through the middle of the panel (i.e. if a cut were to be made at the mid-thickness of the foam there should not be any material on either side of the cut other than the foam).

Grading:

visual inspection of sandwich panel (10%)

dimensional inspection of sandwich panel

width, 3" (5%)

overall length, 12" (5%)

thickness of face sheet (front), 0.040" (10%)

length of overhang (top), 1" (5%)

length of overhang (bottom), 1" (5%)

thickness of face sheet (back), 0.040" (10%)

average peel force (50%)
